ABOUT BOSTON CONVENTION & EXHIBITION CENTER

With roughly 516,000 square feet of space, the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center is the largest such structure in the Northeastern United States. The square footage is separated into three distinct exhibition spaces, so smaller organizations and groups can use the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. However, it can also be used as one large space, so extraordinarily large conventions and exhibitions can take place there any time of the year.

The location of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center puts it in South Boston, so it is not at the heart of the city, but Boston is a very easy city to traverse with most needs within walking distance of any given location. With Boston being a business, entertainment and education hub in New England, this site is necessary to allow the city to continue hosting major events, as other exhibition sites, such as the Bayside Expo Center and the Hynes Convention Center, are too small to host major events.

Rafael Vinoly Architects of New York City was responsible for the memorable design of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Its jutting white roof, which hangs over the drop off and pick up area in front of the building, is unmistakable. The interior is a wide-open space with v-shaped metal beams stretching up from floor to ceiling. Another noteworthy feature is a ring-shaped sculpture that sits on the concrete outside of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

The Boston Exhibition and Convention Center attracts visitors of all sorts. They have trade shows, business conventions, car shows, technology conventions and much more. It is fully equipped to handle technology shows, due to a Shen Milsom and Wilke telecommunications network. Companies like eBay have had shows there and there was even a LinuxWorld trade show in 2006. For those who take their technology a little less seriously, the Penny Arcade or "Pax" exposition began a "Pax East" convention in 2010 and it has been held at the Boston Exhibition and Convention Center.
